An untold story of Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi, taking oath as PM of India

Sri Ganpat Salecha, NMVM coordinator, Jodhpur met me today. He told a real story about Sri Narendra Modi. I would like to share the same that may inspire the readers.

It was in the seventies in Gujrat. Sri Ganpat Salecha was living in Khadia, Ahmadabad. His entire family was RSS followers. He was a businessman and an office bearer in Yuva Jansangh (BJP was not established at that time). Sri Narendra Modi was teaching in a school run by RSS at that time. Sri Shankar Singh Baghela was a trustee in that school. Sri Baghela and Salecha used to sit together and Sri Modi had to come there for getting some register signed.

Once, some of the Jansangh members were discussing difficulties in fund raising at party office. Narendra Modi intervened the discussion and asked about usage of six-seven vacant rooms in party office. Actually these were kept unused. Modi suggested to start a venture for women (cooperative type) at that place.  His suggestion was granted and a venture was started with 60 to 70 widows of that area.

They started preparing Khakhra, Papad, Badi etc and those were sold to Jansangh supporters. Local grocers, supporting Jansangh started supplying raw materials at cost. Gradually they started earning profit after paying labor charges to the women employees. Soon they started earning enough to run their local office.

Local Jansangh office not only got out of financial crunch but also helped several economically deprived families. This step made Jansangh popular among the local people. Narendra Modi was in his twenties at that time, however, his vision showed path to Jansangh leaders.

Three decades passed after that, Modi became Chief Minister of Gujrat in 2002. Ganpat Salecha had returned back to his native place in Rajasthan. He was among organizers of a religious event at Pachpadra in Rajasthan and wanted Modi to grace the occasion with his esteemed presence.  He called on Modi. Sri Narendra Bhai recognized him even after an interval of three decades.

Sri Salecha requested him to join the religious event. Modi, CM of Gujrat refused him modestly. He told that he would be in Gujrat only for next five years. He added that he want to visit each and every place, village to village in Gujrat during that period.  However, he wrote a letter and handed over it to Salecha to be read out as a message from CM, Gujrat.

These two events show few of Modi's qualities vision, imagination, planning, dedication and concentration towards the goal. We still see the same qualities in him that made him Prime Minister of India. And Indian people believe that he will take India to new heights.
