Narendra Modi, PM of India has rightly focused on the Top and bottoms in the United Nations. He focused on meeting and improving bilateral relationships with the powerful countries likes of the US, the UK and France on one side and very small nations on the other hand.
He focused on a small European country like Ireland and visited the country while on the way to New York for UN convention. He chaired the meeting of G-4 countries consisting Japan, Germany, and Brazil, powerful nations in the world and contenders for Permanent members in United Nations Security Council. Besides, he mentioned small island countries across the oceans in his speech in the UN General Assembly. These countries are at the bottom of the UN. Some of these countries are very tiny and have population only of few thousands.
India hosted a summit (India-Pacific Island Nations summit) recently (August 21) in Jaipur where
heads of the 14 island nations - Cook Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Niue, Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea were present. India is supporting all these countries with a grant-in-aid of $ 200,000 each. This is not a small amount for these tiny countries.

We have to remember that each country, big or small; rich or poor has one vote in the UN General Assembly. India needs support and vote of 129 countries in the General Assembly for a permanent seat before it goes to UNSC where India needs all five votes. India has a support of 80 countries in the GA and three in the UNSC. We have to lobby for another 50 votes in the General assembly and two (Russia and China) in the UNSC.
I like to point out about a blog-post in this blog (June 11, 2014) where we have urged to focus on the Top and Bottom of the Indian population. This was a suggestion to PMO. I am thankful to the PM Narendra Modi for using the same tactics for the permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.
